Korean scalp treatment in Gangnam: An exceptional experience

I recently visited Standard Scalp, a scalp treatment clinic in Gangnam, South Korea. Whilst the name of the clinic suggests that you might receive standard treatment, it truly was a remarkable experience.

This intimate clinic prioritizes personalized care, creating a relaxing atmosphere by allowing treatment of only one client at a time.

The owner, Paul (who speaks fluent English), has a personal connection to scalp health, having himself suffered from seborrheic dermatitis on his scalp and body. Motivated by his experience, Paul decided to dedicate himself to studying scalp pathology, which has made him an expert in the field. Paul also brings a unique perspective to his practice, having lived between both the UK and Korea since childhood.

From the moment I arrived at Standard Clinic, my treatment was professional and tailored to my needs. The entire process, which included a thorough consultation, took approximately one hour and 30 minutes.

During the consultation, Paul used advanced cameras to assess my scalp's condition. I wasn’t aware that my scalp was oily and had a significant build-up of dead skin (I know, it's gross!). However, Paul noted that overall, my scalp was healthy. He explained that my lifestyle (being a fitness enthusiast, attending the gym and doing Pilates at least five times a week) together with living in extreme weather conditions (air pollution, and temperatures hitting 36 degrees in the summer and -23 degrees in the winter), likely contributed to the build-up.

At the end of the consultation, Paul provided practical advice on how to care for my scalp and offered product recommendations, all without putting any pressure on me to buy.

Paul recommended that I opt for the clinic’s basic treatment, to avoid creating any sensitivity on my scalp. He also suggested that I consider their advanced treatment at least once each summer and winter, given the extreme weather conditions in Korea, followed by a regular basic treatment once a month.

The treatment listings were presented in both Korean and English, with full explanations of each one available, ensuring that I understood all of my options.

Breakdown of the treatment process that I experienced:

  1. Consultation: My scalp health and concerns were discussed.

  2. Scalp assessment: A specialized camera provided a detailed look at my scalp.

  3. Scalp scaling: Build-up was removed for a healthier scalp.

  4. Steam treatment: Relaxing hot steam, accompanied by a waterfall spa experience.

  5. Shampoo and head massage: A soothing cleanse that felt fantastic.

  6. Nutritional spray: Infusing my scalp with essential nutrients.

  7. Red light therapy: Promoting scalp health and rejuvenation.

  8. Hair drying: This was done by myself.

  9. Completion: I left feeling refreshed and informed.

Overall, my experience was fantastic, and I left with a sense of rejuvenation and a deeper understanding of scalp care. I plan to return for regular treatments because, after all, your scalp deserves just as much attention as your skincare routine!
