[Song Review] AB6IX “GRAB ME”

ABNEW have been treated to five new tracks from their favourite boys.

K-pop boy group, AB6IX, have returned with a bang thanks to the release of their 8th EP, THE FUTURE IS OURS: FOUND. The EP concludes their two-part series that links this release to their previous mini album, THE FUTURE IS OURS: LOST. Members JEON WOONG, KIM DONGHYUN, PARK WOOJIN, and LEE DAEHWI are hoping to give their fans an optimistic message with their five brand new tracks and captivating performances.

Their title track “GRAB ME'' is as enchanting as its title suggests. The airy vocals and gentle instrumentals of the first verse ease the listener into the track. The minimalistic pre-chorus allows for the perfect build-up to the inspiring chorus. Its heavy drum beat and vocal focus match the lyrics brilliantly. The song takes an electronic turn in the post-chorus with PARK WOOJIN taking centre stage thanks to his rhythmic rapping.

The lyrics detail AB6IX’s close relationship with their fans, ABNEW: “Every time you feel that way, grab me / Say you need me there for you / And I’ll never leave you alone”. The sentiment that’s carried throughout the song will provide any fan with comfort. With the song revolving around hope and never giving up in even the darkest moments, “GRAB ME'' is a delight to listen to.

The exciting music video makes sure to highlight boys’ incredible dance moves with many shots of them acing their energetic choreography. ABNEW can be sure to enjoy a variety of dynamic live performances thanks to this dance. The members’ vitality is infectious!

The hip hop focus of “WHISTLE”’s backing and the repeated whistling sound blend wonderfully with the hard-hitting rap verses. The song’s powerful lyrics will help ABNEW tackle anything that comes their way: “Everyone pays attention to me when I whistle / Even if I fall, still I whistle / Rather, bring it on more, bring it on to me more”. “WHISTLE” is the perfect track to give you an energy boost in your day.

“TRAVELER” shows ABNEW a different side to AB6IX. While the track starts off as unassuming, “TRAVELER” soon verges off into an exciting party song. The choruses’ pop punk instrumentals with its engaging electric guitar mixed with a heavy drum beat make it a perfect song to dance around to. “TRAVELER” is most definitely going to be a track that ABNEW are screaming the lyrics to at their concerts.

The second half of the EP takes on a more refreshing energy. The beachy vibe of “ALL NIGHT” provides listeners with a break from the booming instrumentals of the first three tracks. The minimalist soundscape of “ALL NIGHT” will calm any listener that needs a break from a busy day.

“ILY (I LOVE YOU)”, a light ballad, beautifully finishes off the mini album. This track allows the vocalists of the group to properly shine. KIM DONGHYUN and JEON WOONG’s vocals standout in the bridge with their impressive abilities to belt. The lyrics feel like a message directly to ABNEW with its sweet sentiment: “In my anxious days / It was you who reached out and embraced me”. It’s a lovely song to wrap up the album; reminding fans that AB6IX and ABNEW will always be there for each other.

The five new tracks of THE FUTURE IS OURS: FOUND span a variety of genres allowing all listeners to find something that they can enjoy. With their dynamic stage performances, AB6IX continue to capture the hearts of fans across the globe.
