When visiting South Korea, it’s highly likely that a palace or two will be at the top of your to-do list. With stunning palaces such as Gyeongbokgung (the main royal palace during the Joseon dynasty) and Changdeokgung (built as a secondary palace to Gyeongbokgung during the Joseon Dynasty), Korea has ample opportunities for visitors to experience the beauty of traditional Korean culture. To enjoy these palaces at their full, visitors can even rent Hanbok, the Korean traditional dress, which not only adds to the regal vibe but also gains guests free entry to several of the palaces.

Full of charm no matter the time of day, Korea’s royal palaces are even more beautiful at night. During the spring season Korea’s palaces will be open at night, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy special guided tours and evening admission programs fit for a King.

Popular among Koreans and foreigners alike, the Gyeongbokgung Palace Special Evening Admission program offers the chance to taste a recreation of Doseuksurasang – court cuisine prepared for special guests of the Joseon Dynasty king.

During the Night at Seokjojeon Hall, at Deoksugung Palace, visitors can taste coffee and desserts enjoyed by Emperor Gojong while watching an original musical centred on Ms. Son Tak, a mysterious woman who hosted royal banquets for foreign guests at the palace.

Due to the highly sought-after nature of these programs, visitors who are unable to snag tickets can still enjoy Korea’s starlit palaces through regular evening hours which take place at Gyeongbokgung Palace, Deoksugung Palace, Changgyeonggung Palace, and the Temporary Palace at Hwaseong Fortress. Tickets for these hours can be purchased on site.
