Get loved up with these iconic K-dramas this Valentine’s Day

Korea has the secret formula when it comes to romantic dramas. If you’re ready to feel the love, try these iconic K-dramas.

Our Beloved Summer

Two lovers believe they parted for the last time ten years ago. But, as fate would have it, the documentary they filmed during high school resurfaces to popularity and the two are brought together once again to film a reboot. This nostalgic romantic comedy, starring Choi Woo-sik and Kim Da-mi, proves that love always comes out on top; with elements of familial love, platonic love, and unrequited love woven through its core.

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo

Love is difficult to navigate at any age, but try navigating your first love while becoming a successful college weightlifter. For Kim Bok Joo (Lee Sung-kyung), that’s exactly what she does though somewhat clumsily. Despite being willing to give up lifting for the man she perceives to be her first love, her childhood friend and swimming star, Jung Joon Hyung (Nam Joo-hyuk) gives her the inspiration she needs to win big in both weightlifting and love.

Crash Landing on You

As perhaps the most iconic of Korea’s romantic dramas, Crash Landing on You is, and may always be, a fan favourite.

Following the Romeo and Juliet formula, star-crossed lovers Yoon Se-ri (a chaebol heiress from South Korea played by Son Ye-jin) and Ri Jeong-hyeok (a North Korean army officer played by Hyun Bin) find themselves navigating the North-South divide as the former is blown over the border as a result of a paragliding mishap. Not only is the main romance captivating on-screen but their love also blossomed in the real-world with Son Ye-jin and Hyun Bin welcoming their first born on November 27, 2022 following their marriage in March, 2022.

If that isn’t enough to make you fall head over heels for this drama, Captain Ri’s beloved soldiers will leave you with tears streaming down your cheeks by the end of the series (get those tissues ready, you’ve been warned).

Nevertheless

This steamy and completely untypical Korean romantic drama will leave you swooning. If not for Yu Na-bi (Han So-hee) and Park Jae-eon’s (Song Kang) hot college romance or Yoon Sol (Lee Ho-jung) and Seo Ji-wan’s (Yoon Seo-ah) simultaneously heart-aching and heart-warming love story, you’ll for sure fall in love with the OST of this drama. Featuring breathless and beautiful tracks by RIO, Sam Kim, and Jukjae you’re almost certain to have at least a couple of songs stuck on repeat even after you’ve finished the last episode.

Business Proposal

After accepting a blind date in the place of her friend, Shin Ha-ri (Kim Se-jeong) finds herself caught up with her company’s CEO, forcing her to hide her identity for as long as possible. But how long can she really keep up the charade?

This drama gave birth to the award winning MeloMance track “Love, Maybe”, the iconic Kang Tae Moo (Ahn Hyo-seop) line: ‘Do you know what my love for you and this card have in common? There’s no limit.’, and of course the viral ‘glasses scene’ (you know exactly which scene I mean). Of course it deserves a spot in your heart this Valentine’s Day.
